For any parents out there who are wondering how u can help your young hockey player to do better in drills. My suggestion is to speak to them about the importance of paying attention when they are in line during drills. Watching how your teammates in drills helps you learn not only how to perform the drill but what your teammates tendencies are. This goes a long way in game situations because it helps you take advantage of your teammates special skills. Example for this would be noticing that a player is faster than the average player, in a game you would then know to get that player the Puck especially if the player is in an open ice situation where they can really make something happen with speed. Another thing that should become habit is paying attention in line because more complex drills require the next player in line This make passes for the player doing the drill in front of them and not paying attention can ruin a good drill for a teammate and disrupt the flow of practice. One last point would be to stay on your feet when Your in the back of the line during a drill. Taking a knee laying down or sitting on the ice gives the coach the impression that you may be a lazy player or out if shape which could cut in to the ice time You end up with in a game……hope these tips help you they are basic hockey practice rules of thumb.
